  • March 27 - Our first meeting in 2014
    David Kimmerly, an historic preservation specialist has been researching our schoolhouse with the goal of placing it on the National Registry of Historic Places. He has discovered many interesting facts concerning our schoolhouse and has many old photos that he will share with our society.

  • October 29 - Meeting will take place at the Whitpain Township Building, Meeting Room B at 7:30 PM. The meeting will NOT take place at Boxwood because the parking lot is still being rebuilt. This will be our last regular meeting of the year.

    PROGRAM: The American Civil War, a program on the Union soldier, the Battle at Gettysburg and the role of Montgomery County in the war.

    SPEAKER: Michael Jesberger, is President of the New Jersey Regiment, a Revolutionary War reenacting organization. He is also a member of the 28th Pennsylvania Infantry, a Civil War reenacting organization.

  • May 19 - Franklinville School Open House: from 1 to 4 PM. Volunteers are needed. Children are welcome to come and write on old slate boards, play period games and dress up in period clothes. Great photo-op!
  • May 11 - Plant and Attic Sale: from 9 AM to 3 PM at the Boxwood House. Donations of small items and baked good would be appreciated. Volunteers are needed. Please call 215-542-8845 if you are available to help that day.

  • Junly 15 - Evans-Mumbower Mill: 1:00 - 4:00pm Ice Cream Social on the lawn of the Mill. Hands-on activities for children of all ages. Adults $5 Children 12 & under $3.
  • June 26 - AFTERNOON MEETING: 1:15PM at the Peter Wentz Farmstead, 2100 Schultz Road, Worcester. We’ll meet at the Visitors Center. Our private tour includes the house & the farm. The Farmstead was established in 1744 by Peter & Rosanna Wentz and served as headquarters for General George Washington during the fall of 1777.

    Public viewing is from the paved parking area up past the white French Villa & into the upper field. Viewing areas will be clearly marked and on the periphery of battle zone.
    2-3pm Society Music Makers Swing Band (40's era Under the Big Tent)
    3-4pm Living History. Talk to the troops and examine authentic WW II equipment.

    Sunday, May 6th 10AM- 2PM

    10am Park opens. Public able to walk around encampment
    12 noon War Stories- WWII vets Alex Horanzy and Mario Chairolanza (Survivors of Pearl Harbor )
    1pm HONOR GUARD - Presenting flags to Alex Horanzy, Mario Chairolanza, Herb Levy

    The cost of admission is Saturday $10 and Sunday $6. All WW II veterans get free admission. There will be military vendors on site along with plenty of food and drink. Admission fee includes a tour of the Keith House.
    All proceeds go to support the two community benefit organizations that maintain and restore this complex of historic buildings: Friends of Graeme Park and the Horsham Preservation and Historic Association. 

  • April 12 - Local Author Event which is being held to honor local authors and to celebrate National Library Week.
    When: 1 PM – 3:30 +.
    Where: Wissahickon Valley Public Library
    650 Skippack Pike (Route 73), Blue Bell 19422 
    diagonally across from the historic Blue Bell Inn,
    approx.5 miles east of intersection with 202 (DeKalb Pike)

    Free for authors and public alike.

    Our “local” authors will be coming from Berks, Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware counties as well as New Jersey. The event is open to all authors, new and experienced, all genres, all audiences. All local authors are invited – email or call Sue Burdick to confirm you are coming.

    We have a total so far of 27 authors! They range from adult to children’s authors, fiction to nonfiction, including history, mystery, romance, local hiking trails and local history.

    Are you a local author? Sign up and register! Pass the word to your “fellow” authors. There’s still time to register.

    Bring your books. Sell your books. Autograph your books. Hand out info/cards/bookmarks to promote your books. Present mini booktalk (5-7 min.) about yourself and your work.

  • February 26 - Saving the Revolution: Lafayette’s Escape at Barren Hill 2:00 p.m. Historical Society of Montgomery County, 654 DeKalb Street Norristown, PA 19401
    The story of Lafayette’s escape from the British was considered nothing more than a minor skirmish and insignificant to the Revolution story. Because of recent research, retired history teacher and historian, Rudolph Cusumano, discovered how Commanding General Sir William Howe distorted the truth to hide his failure and downplay the American escape. Mr. Cusumano will speak on the life of this Patriot for the American Cause.

  • March 29 @ 1 PM. at the Wissahickon Public Library in Blue Bell located at 650 Skippack Pike. Col. Ed Scholl, USAR, will talk about the Lewis and Clark Expedition. He is the author of Lewis and Clark in the Twenty First Century which recounts his own journey following in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark.
  • March 27 - At 2:30 PM the Historical Society of Montgomery County will present a program, Tea and Conversation With Molly Brown, at the Society Headquarters, 1654 DeKalb Pike in Norristown. Molly, better known as the unsinkable Molly Brown, was a survivor of the sinking of the ship Titanic. Tickets are $25 for members and $30 for non-members.   • December 11: The Friends of Valley Forge Park will participate in a Wreath Laying Ceremony at Valley Forge Park. 2000 Wreaths will be placed around the National Memorial Arch in commemoration of those who died at Valley Forge during the 1777-1778 encampment. The wreaths are scheduled to remain in place through the remainder of December. Volunteers are needed on Saturday, December 11 at 9AM at the National Memorial Arch to help place the wreaths. Afternoon tea with Martha Washington as she reflects on her experiences at Valley Forge and relates events from her time as the " first" First Lady. Tea and sandwiches will be served. Rededication of the Franklinville School:

September 21, 2008. 150 years after the opening of the Franklinville School, the Historical Society of Whitpain hereby rededicated the Franklinville School to the entire community, especially to our children, teachers and future generations to come, for their education and use.
