I was raised in Americus, Georgia.
When did you (move to the U.S./move from somewhere else in the U.S.) ?
I came to Philadelphia in 1950, at the age of 17.
Why did you leave your country/State/former place of residence?
I chose Philadelphia because I wanted my kids to get a good education.
What did you like/dislike about your home/country?
Nothing at all!
Why did you choose Philadelphia/U.S?
I had family there.
How did you travel here?/What type of transportation did you use/take to travel here?
By Greyhound bus.
How did you find a place to live in philly?
I lived with my aunt until I found an apartment and that's where I lived until I bought my home in Philadelphia.
With whom did you travel? [Who did you travel with?]
My children.
Give 1 thing you remember most about your home town and why?
Quiet, peaceful, when you go to bed at night you can rest.
How did your life change when you moved and what were the differences between the two places?
My life did not change, I had a nice husband and six children (2 borne in Philadelphia).
What did you expect about the US/philadelphia?
A good job and a nice home.
What did you come here to accomplish and what else do you feel you still need to do?
I came here to make a better life for myself and my family.
What are the differences between when you came here and now?
There are none.
What did you sacrifice/leave behind when you left?
Not a thing.
What problems did you encounter coming to the US/philadelphia?
No problems at all just the noise.
How much money did you have and where did you get it when you came to philadelphia/US?
Too far back, I can't remember all of that!
How did you adapt to your new environment?
Beautifully.
Why do you think it was worth all your changes?
Because my kids finished high school, all have good jobs, all are married and they've all given me beautiful grandchildren.
What education did you have before/after you arrived?
10th grade.
Do you [ever] regret moving? Why or why not?
No. That's a 64 thousand question I can't answer that.
What reason would/could make you go back to where you came from?
That's another 64 thousand dollar question I can't answer that one either!
Describe your first job here. If you didn't have one, who did you get money?
Pinwax Candle factory making candles, lamp factory making lamps, greeting card factory making greeting cards.
