What is your full name?

My name is Paz Romero Joven.
What is your nationality?
I am Filipino.
What is your date of birth?
I was born on May 20, 1952.
Where were you born?
I was born in Pangasinan, Philippines.
When did you move to US/Philadelphia?
October 9, 1995.
Why did you leave your country?
My children and I left our country to join my husband in Philadelphia.
What did you like/dislike about your home/country?
I like my country because I was born there and my relatives and most of my friends live there.

What I don't like is the economy and the standard of living. It was hard to find a job, where young ones such as college graduates were given more opportunities.

Why did you choose Philadelphia/US?
I chose Philadelphia because my husband live there.
How did you travel here?
I traveled by plane.
How did you find a place to live in Philadelphia?
When we came here my husband already lives in Philadelphia.
With whom did you travel?
I traveled with my two sons.
Give 1 thing you remember most about your home town and why?
I always remember the new year. The new in the Philippines is not like new years in other countries. It was very noisy and you couldn't sleep at night because of the fire crackers. I remember this because lots of children had accidents for handling fire crackers.
How did your life change when you moved and what were the differences between the two places?
When I came to U.S. I saw big difference in lifestyles. You have to find a job to pay your bills. In Philippines some jobless people often spend their time gambling for money.
What did you expect about the US/Philly?
I expected to have a job so I can help my husband in our financial needs.
What did you come here to accomplish and what else do you feel you still need to do?
I came here to have a job and save money for the college education of my two sons. Also to support my relatives in Philippines.
What are the differences between when you came here and now?
The difference is that when I first came here, I stayed home most of the time because I don't speak English very well. Also I wasn't adjusted with the weather before, but now I can communicate better and the weather is not bothering me anymore.
What did you sacrifice/leave behind when you left?
I left my parents, siblings and close friends.
What problems did you encounter coming to the US/Philly?
I did not encounter any problems coming to US.
How did you adapt to your new environment?
I adapted to my new place through watching TV and listening to the news.
What education did you have before/after you arrived?
I finished my college degree and majored in accounting. Right now I'm studying data entry.
Do you regret moving? Why or why not?
I didn't regret moving because my husband and children and I were together again.
What reason would make you go back to where you came from?
I'll go back to my country after my retirement from job, and to spend my old age there.
Describe your first job here. If you didn't have one, who did you get money?
My first job was a feeder. I fixed and arranged printed papers to be sorted out by a machine which is to be put in the envelope.
