techniques
- Read primary source materials - oral histories in the American
Memory Collection and American Life Histories
- Analyzed photographs from the FSA/OWA
- Opened conversations at home about immigration/migration that
revealed family histories
- Produced interesting documents
- Participated in a first-rate group interview with Dr. Jose Lebron, our
school's former principal, who was born in Puerto Rico (now in an
edited videotape form)
- learned how to create web sites
- Improved their Internet research skills (as well as basic
reading and writing skills)
- Made a real contribution to the history of people who often
constitute an invisible community because they are impoverished,
speakers of another language or are people of color
