NOTE: There has been another change in Shutterfly, the service I've been using to store and share my photos since 2003. Now, it seems that unless you are a member, you can't use the Slideshow feature and are limited to a relatively small image, nor can you download any of the pictures you'd like to keep.
You CAN increase the image size by hitting the Control key and then the + key as many times as you wish until you're satisfied with the size. I suggest you count the number of times you do this so you can return everything back to "normal" afterwards.
I've been in contact with the company and they said you would have to join the site. This is free, and if you double-click on any image, the slideshow begins with whatever picture you clicked on, however, any captions do not show.
I'm working on it and, if necessary, I'm prepared to move to another provider. [July 28, 2025]

Shortly after I retired in 2003 I started volunteering at Non-Profit Technology Resources (NTR). This was a great experience for me as for the first time I got a chance to get my hands dirty - really just VERY dusty!
After a while I discovered that NTR was not only training people to fix computers & selling them but they were GIVING them away to school students. A little light went off, "Ah HA! Edison!" I got in touch with my colleague who still taught at that time in the Bilingual program & we got the ball rolling so that we eventually got over 200 Edison/Fareira students their own computer.
Nilza's husband had a connection with Channel 6 in Philly & eventually, they came to visit on a day a group of Edison/Fareira students came to learn about their computers before they took them home.
I recently got copies of the original TV presentation and here are two versions of it - originally on video tape.
One is a M4V file (59 megs), the other a MOV file (231 megs) NOTE: The MOV version starts off with some "static" but don't worry - it's NOT your computer.
Many thanks to Lou Lozada for moving this from video tape.
This
July we had the opportunity to travel to Switzerland and explore that amazing
country. If you enjoy beautiful vistas, Switzerland has it all for you. If, like
me, you LOVE trains and other forms of transportation, Switzerland has it
in spades: for instance, they are virtually overrun with trolleybuses or what
we, in Philly, call "trackless trolleys." There they come in all
varieties: single, double and triple articulated segments. Beyond that, they use
3 different gauges on rail lines. In fact, they even have one that
actually changes the gauge of the cars, and don't forget the numerous cog
railway lines and gondolas suspended by cables used to "climb" some mountains.
As you might guess, we had a great time on this tour and we'd love to share our
pictures with you.
A
surprise trip to the Great Lakes.
It was a surprise in that while we were on the cruise to Scotland, we received an offer that was impossible to refuse and in October we were off on a "great" tour of the lakes from Toronto to Chicago with some unexpected stops in Cincinnati, Detroit and Waukegan.
However, the greatest part of the trip was the totally unexpected view of the Aurora Borealis - the Northern Lights that we were able to see in the middle of a lake and that's why I selected on of these photos as my thumbnail for this album.

The annual Edison/Fareira Retirees Luncheon was held again and

In
June we went on a Tauck Tour cruise of Scotland. The weather was hardly what we'd consider
"summery," but the sights were beautiful and the cruise part
especially delightful.
One of the most exciting times we had was our closing dinner on Queen Elizabeth's former Royal Yacht, Britannia.
Take a look at our pics so that you can share our experience. To see the videos of the brief time of "roiling seas," go to Facebook - you don't have to be a member. If a "sign in" box appears, just click on the X and you'll be able to play the videos.
Those of you who are Outlander followers

I've discovered that there were some of our trips that weren't shared here, so, rather late in the day, I'm correcting that defficit.
In
August, we visited Barcelona for the first time. The city is astounding, starting
with the The Sagrada Familia and including the other great works by Gaudi in the
city.
Everywhere you look there are interesting buildings, people and places.

In
August we took one of our most fantastic trips: Alaska. The state is enormous
so we just had to take a bite of it: we went from Juno to Glacier Bay and many
small towns and cities along the way. Most of the trip was by small ship but one
of the highlights was the White River Rail Road excursion.
See it all.
We've
been to Williamsburg, Va twice. These are the pictures from our second trip in
the summer of 2003.
The biggest difference we noticed was the shift to make a point that since this city existed in Colonial times and especially in Virginia, there was finally an effort to explain the part Blacks played in the city. There were many "interpreters" who did an excellent job of explaining what had, until then, been a hidden part of the city's history.
See our pictures.
Shots

I received this Christmas card. I know I'm just one of a million who is on the list but it's neat, never the less. Looks like I'll have to send him one next year!
