The goal of the Business Small Learning
Academy is to help students develop skills in office
technology, materials management,
accounting and finance, and to prepare students for employment in
business
related career fields. Some Business Academy students
enter the
world of work immediately after graduation. Others go on to college and
major
in business administration, management, or accounting.
There are several special electives for Business Academy students. They may take Accounting, Information Processing, Business Concepts, Business Law, Marketing, and Speedwriting. Business Academy students work to improve computer skills using Windows-based computers. The academic program features a unique learning laboratory in English and Social Studies. Students work cooperatively with both teachers to complete research assignments, including senior projects. Another unique feature of the Academy is the opportunity to participate in work-based learning assignments. Students earn credits, experience, and dollars while working as interns in the business community. Students choose the Business Academy to learn how to start a business or to prepare themselves for business careers. Teachers and students in the Business Academy say that it's like a big family that works together and learns from one another. Mrs. Gold, the academy coordinator, is instrumental in creating that atmosphere. |
