The Multicultural Academy ensures
that English language learners have an equal opportunity in academics,
social
interaction and social involvement in all school settings. The goal is
to
help all students to achieve their maximum potential.
According to Mrs. Lozada, the program coordinator,MCC students are as highly motivated as any other student. Bilingual and ESOL classes are a unique benefit for students who are learning English. Students are able to remain on track academically, while they improve their English skills. Multicultural Academystudents make the transition to other Academies by participating in different shops and college prep classes. When students graduate from the Multicultural Academy they tend to continue their education. Many graduates have gone to LaSalle University or to technical schools.The Multicultural Academyhelps all students to recognize and respect the many cultural traditions that are part of the American cultural fabric. Students in our society need to develop the skills necessary to work, study and coexist with peers and adults from a variety of ethnic, social and economic backgrounds. We, the teachers in theMulticultural Academy, are dedicated to the challenge of preparing our students to enter post high school life open to the diversities of American society and it's many facets. It is our goal to develop an understanding and appreciation of students' own cultures and that of the larger community, to challenge bias regarding race, religion, gender, disabilities, sexual orientation and language. Our students will be able to work and live within their community, aware and proud of their own ethnic background and sensitive to those different from themselves. |
