| The introduction of theSuccess
Academy for new ninth grade students became the cornerstone of
the Edison/Fareirareorganization. The ninth grade
resides on the third floor and is divided into four teams. Each team
has a core of teachers who are dedicated to the success of the first
year students.
The main purpose of the Ninth Grade Success Academy is to make the transition from middle school to high school much easier. When students don't succeed in high school, the problems usually start in the ninth grade. By improving the ninth grade experience, theAcademy believes that a larger percentage of students will continue on to graduation. The faculty of the Success Academy helps students to adapt to the new school environment, while promoting a strong sense of identity and self worth. The Success Academy has developed several courses to achieve these goals. In Freshmen Seminar, students gain an overview of many different careers and the requirements needed to attain success in them. Students are also introduced to the Edison small learning communities. Transition to advanced mathematics is designed to prepare students for higher level mathematics courses. Literature provides the foundation for future English courses. |
